Judy's General Thoughts & Advice

It’s funny. When we’re little kids, we spend so much time wishing that we would get bigger or be able to do what big grown ups do. Remember those days. Now, we are an adults and what happens now.

If the truth were to be told, now that I’m all grown up, I really would love to be a kid again. I mean, think about it. No worries all. Just eat, sleep, go to school and have fun.

It would be awesome to go back to those days and even though I know I can’t physically, I can go there in my mind. I can make an effort not to worry as much about things I can’t control and have more fun in life.

In fact, I think all adults should give this a try. Instead of trying to be so grown up and in charge of everything, how about just relaxing and chilling out for a bit and allowing life to flow just like we did when we were kids? That’s an idea, huh?

So kids if you’re listening, please enjoy your childhood. You only get 18 years and then the rest of the time on this earth you’re an adult. On another note, if you are one of those unfortunate kids who didn’t enjoy your childhood, there is nothing to stop you from doing so now at any age. You really can have fun as live everyday with joy and happiness. Give it a try and life can be better than you ever thought.

I don’t know about you, but when I grow up I want to be a kid again.

Social media can be fun. It actually is one of the greatest things to happen in technology. It can be a great way to connect with old friends and colleagues, but there can also be a downside to social media if you are not careful. After interviewing for a bit during my layoff in 2009/2010. I was given some interesting advice for HR Managers. They stated that it is important to be careful what you post online. In fact, there have been instances where people have been fired or didn't get a job because of their posts on places such as Facebook.

My younger family members and friends state they are just having fun and while that may be true. Don't be dummy and post something online that you don't want to pay for later. One rule of thumb to use is this "If you don't want your parents or employer to see it, you may not want to even post it." Remember, even with the privacy settings, some things you write can come back to haunt you. Be smart about social media.

Positive Thinking

I can't begin to stress enough how important thinking positive is in life. It is even more important now with all the things going on with the economy. Of course, we know that many people have lost their jobs and had to change their standard of living. I was one of them and I was distraught at first, but then I decided to change my perspective. I decided I would practice trying to be upbeat and thankful for life.

Now I know that changing the way you think may not change the situation right away, however I also know it that wallowing in the negative will never get you to the positive either. In fact, it only makes you feel worse. It also makes other people you are around feel down as well. Negativity is contagious, but positivity can be too.

Now, if you are not normally one of the most positive people don't fret. You can elect to change your way of thinking at anytime. Contrary to belief or the cliche you really can teach an old dog new tricks. The key is that the dog has to be open to learning something new.

Yeah, I know it sounds simple, but you know what I'm learning as I get a little older? I am discovering that many things in life are not as hard as we try to make them be. They really aren't so make an effort to be as positive as possible. You will be surprised at how much better you feel. You may also make someone else feel good too. That could truly make it all worth it. If you stay positive long enough, your circumstances change for the better. Give it a shot.

Valentine's Day

It is a beautiful sunny day in New York and what I plan to do for my Valentine's Day is to relax and enjoy my solitude. 2009 had been a rough year with the loss of my mother, the loss of my job and the loss of my guy I was seeing. Even with all of that piling up in one year, I have to say that I am thankful and very blessed to be alive and healthy. Those are the things than money cannot buy. I have learned to love others and treat them well, but I have also learned to treat myself well and enjoy being alone.

It is funny. I have to say that my writing career has given me this great pleasure of relishing my time alone. In fact, this might just be the best Valentine's Day ever. Wow, how I have grown. What a difference a year makes in your life. Happy Valentine's Day everyone. Love others, but mostly love yourself.

Promoting other's work

Sometimes promoting other people's businesses or projects so they will successful can be good for you. As a writer, I have earned quite a bit of influence in the media and as a result love to share it with others. Whenever I see an interesting story, or know someone having an event, I find that it is a perfect time to write an article about it to spread the word. Word of mouth is a good thing and can work in many different ways as technology changes.

This may seem unconventional, since most people normally want to get the word out about what they are doing or their specific project. This is fine, but perhaps by spreading the word about something someone else is doing, it may help you get the attention you maybe seeking. I have found that this works much better than you think.

Give it a shot. It is always a good time to try something new. Promote someone else and watch your career take off as well.

Knowing what you want

I sometimes come into contact with people who are not happy with their lives. I have heard comments like "I thought I would be further at this age," "I really hate my job," or I just don't know what to do."

Now, I'm sure that many of us have felt like this a one time or another. Most people have goals and dreams they wish to accomplish and may become discouraged when circumstances don't work out or if they have to wait. However, the one thing I'm learning is that no goal is ever achieved without some adversity or willingness to take a risk. Most successful people have had to deal with failure at one point in their career. That is just life but because they wanted to achieve the goal more than anything, they continued.

I do believe however, that the people that win are the ones that knew what they wanted and were willing to do what it took to get it. They were willing to work harder, work for free, think out of the box and take risks.

I love watching biographies and documentaries about famous people whether they are: CEO's celebs, inventors, sports figures, etc., and the story is mostly the same, they believed in themselves and they knew what they wanted. There was nothing or no one that could stop them. I believe that is what separates the winners from the wannabe winners. Knowing what you want is half the battle and going after it it the other half. The ability to stick to a dream no matter what it looks like can separate you from others.

To me, that is the real key to success. Do the work, know what you want and there is no way you can lose.

Since I am an optimist, I have to say that I looking forward to this new year. While I have no concrete resolutions, it is important for me to stay focused, remain positive and grow as much as possible. Each year is a new time to reflect on the past year and make a conscious effort to be better.

Most people are make a resolutions to diet, save more money, spend more time with their family, and those are great goals but they may put less pressure on themselves if they just decide to practice being the best they can be daily.

2010 has began with a bang of excitement and cheer. Like every new year, you can make it a good one and I plan to do just that. I'm glad to be a part of 2010 and anxiously await all the interesting things it brings.

Taking some time off

The holidays are here and this year I have decided to do something different. This year, I believe I am going to stay in to relax. The year of 2009 was pretty busy for me. I spent pretty much all of the year job hunting, then halfway through it, I had to deal with the loss of my mother. During the Spring, Summer and even Fall, I did not have the time to stop and take a break. There were too many things to handle. Even with all the things that came up, I remained positive and focused on getting better. As the end of the year comes near, I plan to reward myself with rest and relaxation. It is starting to be quite important to do that so I can be ready for the new year and all that it brings.

Come to think of it, maybe it won't all be all about relaxing. Perhaps I will balance it. I do have a few household projects and paperwork to handle. if I plan it correctly, I can just work at my own pace and rest when needed. Yeah, that's it. The quiet of the holidays will be a great time to take care of myself and for the the first time in a long time, I look forward to it. Happy Holidays.

The First Holiday Without My Mom

As we get older, it is inevitable for things to change. Nothing in life remains the same and being able to adapt is necessary to grow. Thanksgiving just passed and there was a lot to be thankful for. I am alive, prosperous, sane and very healthy, but even with all those blessings, I have to say that I miss my mom. My father passed away 11 years ago. Wow, has it been that long? Yes it has, but I had finally gotten to a point where I was okay with it. I had learned to live without him being around and wouldn't you know it just as I was at peace about my father passing, I now have to deal with my mom passing in the Spring of 2009.

This was the first major holiday without her. It is very different, but somehow my siblings and I endured. Even though it is hard right now and it is all still new to me, I know one day I will be able to live with it just as I did with my father. I know they would both want me to be happy and enjoy life. That is the part that makes me smile. Lastly, I am thankful for being able to get through the first major holiday without her. Each day, I know it will get better.

Do your homework!

Each day as I develop my connections I run across people that want me to hook them up. It's cool and it is my goal to give back but what I want to say many times is this: "Do you homework and make your own connections." I do believe that connections and networking get you many places but I also believe it has made many people lazy and dependent on knowing someone. Remember this: "No one will every care about your career more that you do."

Also remember that sometimes even the people with connections are busy going after their own goals as well and sometimes don't have the time to help out. It is not personal. It is just about timing and caring enough to do some of the work yourself.

Well that is my two cents. I am always ready to help but sometimes I just don't have all that time.

The Joys of Traveling

As a kid, it was always my goal to travel to new places around the world and to meet new people. The thought of being in a different place far away from the normal activities of the day intrigued me. As I grew older, little by little I was able to go to some of the places I had always dreamed of visiting. These experiences have great enriched my life even more than I can begin to say.

One would think that you would get tired of traveling, but I cannot say that has happened to me as of yet. I still love traveling. I don't much care for the checking in at customs, the airline delays or jet lag, but going some place new is always on my list of things to do. Always!

So I challenge everyone to put an end to the staycations and to opt for visiting somewhere new at least once a year. I find travel to be one of the most eye opening experiences you can have. It truly expands your mind and somehow coaxes you forget about yourself and challenges you to focus on learning something about someone else. Take a trip. It will be the best thing that you will ever do.

Life is Amazing

Each decade, I am amazed at all the changes that come about. All of the new technology and the gadgest that allow us to now do what we could not just a year or so ago. The growth of social networking provides the opportunity to find old classmates and colleagues. It would seem that I would be over the wonderful of technology and new media, but to be honest I am far from that. I actually love it. Each time a new products appears I am more excited and intrigued as to how it came about. In fact, I hope no matter how old I get I keep that childlike wonder. I may not be able to text as fast but I want to learn about it anyway. I want to remain curious and exuberant about whatever is new and different in this world.

If the truth be told, even when there is nothing to marvel about, I have to admit that life is pretty amazing. Throughout our life, we get to meet some pretty cool people and have some memorable experiences that can change our lives and the lives of other.

The economy may be having its challenges, but I want to keep in mind that no one can ever put a price on life. It is truly too amazing to buy and a very precious gift. Except it and live life to the fullest.

Staying on Course with the Positive Thoughts

This morning when I looked at the calendar, I thought how hard it was to believe that it was September already. This year, like so many has gone fast but this year has been a little different. In the beginning of the year, I lost my job and then at the beginning of the second quarter of the year I lost my mother. The second event was a little more devastating but they both were life changing in some form. It has been a trying time for me, but I try to keep focus and realize that I am not alone and there are other people who are going through situations as well. Knowing this fact, keeps me compassionate and more sympathetic to my neighbor as well as myself.

It may take a little effort, but I make a conscious decision to remain as positive as possible. One thing I do, is to think about how I got through other bad things from the past that have happened in my life and how they made me stronger. I sometimes take a moment to call or visit someone to talk to them and make their day. Staying positive in a time like this is vitally important. It really is and to me it is the only way to succeed. Life does get better but in the interim do what ever you can to make it and to stay positive. Positive thoughts equal positive results.

No Fear Here

Almost every day on on the daily news without fail, I hear about how bad the economic climate is for everyone. There are reports as to how this might be the toughest time for America since the Great Depression. Maybe it is. Maybe it isn't. It is all in how you see it.

My instant thought when I have these dire reports is, how can people be optimistic when they hear things like this day in and day out? Of course, I am not asking that the news reports be sugar-coated, but there needs to be a little bit more balance out there.

Okay, so we know that things may be tough, but there can be valuable lessons learned even in tough times. Maybe this downturn can teach each of us what is most important. Maybe being laid off can cause us to spend more time with our family, our friends or teach us to learn to slow down and smell the proverbial roses.

This can also be a time for people to learn how to have more faith and positivity. Fear and worrying never solves anything. In fact, it can make things worse. I admit that some days it is tough to be upbeat but I am teaching myself that I have the choice to be positive or negative. When the news reports come, I hear them but I quickly decide to see the positive in my life. There really are some good things going on. When I do this, no matter what comes up I can keep the right perspective. Things always do get better. They really do so instead of worrying, I say "No Fear Here."

Decisions, Decision Decisions

There are times in life when you have decide something that seems tough or life changing. This could be the decision to get married, the decision to move or the decision to do nothing. Either way, a major change in your life requires quite a bit of thought. Some people just jump into things. I have been guilty of this myself when I was younger but I have learned (sometimes the hard way) to think first.

The bottom line is this, if something is for you, then it is for you. There is never a need to rush or race to make choices that affect your life. I am a believer that most things work out for the best when we are patient and don't allow fear to pressure us.

In a nutshell, my decision is to think things over then decide.

Michael Jackson

I'm sure I'm not the only one who was shocked when they heard about the death of Michael Jackson. Like many other I grew up listening to Michael and it was just so unbelievable to me. My heart definitely goes out to the family. As each day goes by, I ask myself if there could have been anything done to prevent this tragedy. Could the pressure of being a Pop Icon have been so much that is was inevitable? Is it normal for anyone human to have this kind of fame? What can I say?

I do hope that the future stars and pop icons can take something from this and try to live a more balanced life. For now, I will just appreciate that Michael Jackson was here and that he left us a huge legacy of great music to listen to each day. RIP Michael.

It's been a while

Wow, I just noticed that it has been a while since I blogged. I have been so busy job hunting and updating my Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter accounts. All is good and I just landed a freelance editorial opportunity. It's busy but is completely something that will expand my skills and experience. I am excited and ready for the challenge.

Change is good and something I welcome because you get to learn something new. I like that and believe it is one of the things that keeps us young and alive.

Losing a Parent

Life does throw us a few curve balls sometimes. There are really good moments but there are also some really sad moments. I am starting to believe that if we can balance it properly, then maybe nothing is really that bad or good after all. Well is it? Does that statement even make sense?

I lost my dad 10 years ago and that was a shock but I got through it, but I never knew I would be saying good-bye to my mother just 10 years later. It is a sad time with Mother's Day being so close at hand. I see the commercials and think, this year I won't be buying or giving my mom a gift. Wow, that is interesting. How do I feel about that? How will I cope? Well, she was sick for a while so I am glad that she is out of pain but I do miss her and as reality sinks in each day, I'm sure I will miss her even more.

The one thing I am happy about is that she is no longer in pain. She was sick for a while and that is no way for anyone to live. I did have my mom for a long time so I am very thankful for that as well and even though I am still sad, I do know that as the days go by I will be stronger and continue to live a good life even with this huge change before me. Losing a parent is not an easy thing, but I know my mom and dad would want me to continue living a good life and being as joyful as possible. My goal is to honor them both by being happy and being thankful. That would make them very proud.

Networking vs Do it Yourself Job Hunting

Since I have been laid off, I have found something to be true. I have always said that no one will care about your career more than you and it's true. Many people will tell you that in business "It's Who You Know." I agree and I disagree with this notion. I agree because there have been a few instances when I received and opportunity that DID happen because I had a connection. However, along with that connection I had to have the skills and education to do the job once hired.

Why I disagree with the "Who You Know" philosophy is that many times in my career I have gotten position based purely on just sending out my resume and cover letter. I had no connections at all. I have also received calls just by placing my resume on job boards. It really does work. I believe the best way to succeed in something is to cover all basis. Sure, get out there and network and collect business cards but also, get online, send your resume and contact people you don't know. Sometimes just having the right skills, education and believing in yourself is the only connection you need to know.

Keeping your skills updated

It is important to keep your skills updated during the time you are laid off. There are so many opportunities to volunteer and take some classes to make yourself continue to be marketable during this economic downturn.

As things start to get better, you can add your new skills to your resume and maybe even demand more money. This process can also help you to remain upbeat and optimistic about the future. Think about it and give it a try.

Finding Meaningful Work

In this tough economic times, it may seem like choosing a meaningful job or career may be impossible, but I personally don't believe it is. I believe that it is important to know what your values and goals are in order to find a career that you can be passionate about. Let's face it, many people have to work for a living to afford their basic needs (housing, food, clothing), but there is another need that sometimes get missed and that is the need to be as happy as possible in a career.

We normally work at our jobs for 8 or more hours. If you dislike your job, what does being unhappy for 8 hours a day for 5 years or more do to the spirit? The result cannot be very good which is why I stress really asking yourself what you want when looking for the next position. What do you value? What is meaningful work to you? When you really search and ask yourself these questions, they can be revealed to you. Making what you want to happen will take a lot of faith and courage to take a risk but if you finally get what you want, it will be worth it. Just a little food for thought.

Holding onto the dream

No matter how bad it gets and no matter what the news reports might say, I have decided to stay upbeat and positive about what is going on in the world. Change is always tough since most of us like to stay in our comfort zone, but I have found that once the dust settles from all new things in my life, I am actually happy to have gone through it.

I know that sounds a little weird, but it's true. Going through something not so pleasant is never fun but if you can get through it and come out stronger, you have learned something valuable. I am definitely an example of going through a rough time but coming out stronger and wiser.

So even in the present economy, I am planning to stay positive and hold on to the dream. This is starting to be my new approach to life. I really hope that others will choose to do the same. Sometimes our attitude can make all the difference in how something turns out.

Catch 22

I am a writer and have been a writer for over 20 years. I am dedicated, talented and very disciplined in getting material written, copyrighted and ready in all ways to submit to production companies and publishing houses. I have even had the opportunity to make quite a few contacts in the industry. I guess you could say I know a few people and I know my craft but here in lies the rub. I receive calls from executives at major companies and they are interested in seeing my work but within the conversation the inevitable always comes up. The question, "Do you have an agent?" is what they ask. This is the The Catch 22.

As I mentioned, I am talented. From 16 years old to the present, I have written and rewritten at the suggestions for many industry professionals and I have to say my work is better. For that, I'm grateful, but I am frustrated by the brick wall I come to when getting my work in the hands of the right people. Don't get me wrong, I have had agents over the years however some were not very good which is why I no longer have one. I believe like a personal relationship or friendship an agency relationship has to be chose carefully. You have to find someone as interested in growing your career as well.

Currently I am seeking representation and looking for the right agent. The Right Agent! I work hard on my career and am looking for the exact same thing. I attend industry events, network, and can drum up my own contacts, I just need the middleman to seal the deal. This year, I am working to make that happen. No more Catch-22 for me.

When Not Working....Work, Learn and Relax

I was recently laid off from my editorial position at a major publishing company. It is something that has been happening to quite a few people I know in my industry so I was not alone. I was a little sad about the layoff but after a few weeks, I began to regroup and find the positive. Even though I was laid off at a time when so many people were out of work, I decided to use the time wisely. There have been a few things I have wanted to learn but always seemed to be too busy so I decided to take this time to learn a new skill, polish some old skills and even relax every now and then.

So far, things have been going well. I cannot say that I don't get a little discouraged at times but now when I do I can quickly turn it around and focus on the good. Keeping myself busy, along with helping others is the way I stay upbeat and with my mind staying on my goal. I am even learning how to relax and not sweat the small stuff as much. If I can pass on any advice or wisdom to anyone who has been laid off recently, it would be to take the change as an opportunity to go into a new and exciting direction. That is what I'm doing and to be honest it is not a bad thing. Not a bad thing as all.

Bright Light in Dark Times

I made a promise to myself that I would remain positive even in the mist of a recession and I am happy to say that it is going well so far. I did just get over a cold and some of the work I had slowed down but I managed to keep my mind on good things. That might just be the trick, Stay focused and stay upbeat because things do eventually get better.

If I could say one thing to all the American citizens being affected by the economic slowdown and that would be to stay strong and try to be thankful for the good things in life. If we focus on that, then one day the good things will show up at our door.

No Good News on the News

It is a New Year and I am very excited about 2009. I am looking forward to a new year and glad I am alive to see it. Despite what the news reports about the economy, I have decided to focus on being happy and thankful to be alive, sane and most of all physically healthy. I mean, lets be honest, would it matter how much money we had if we were dying or mentally insane? You know the answer and that answer is No. Hell no!! If you are healthy and sane, that in itself is good news.

As a result, I have decided to pick and choose what I watch these days. I cannot allow the dire reports to infiltrate my mind and send me into a deep depression. Hey, I know the economy is not as good as it could be. I think everyone knows that now, but focusing on how bad it is, is not going to make it better.

Since I have a choice to switch off my TV or to go to another website, that is what I am doing to keep my positivity. When there is once again more good news than bad, maybe I will once again want to hear what's going on. Until then, no thanks. I will make my own good news. Maybe you might want to do that as well.

Supporting One Another

Each day I wonder if modern society knows the importance of being kind, and I mean really being kind to one another. I usually pride myself as a kind and loving person but when I feel attacked, I sometime revert to this little child trying to fight my way out of a paper bag. I feel frustrated and am not always at my best. There are times when I am excited about something I have accomplished and I tell someone and they don't seem to respond the way I thought. Is it me or it is that we just don't know what to say or how to support one another?

Let's face it, I am overwhelmed and as as busy as the next person. Everyone seems to be carrying a heavy load. Is that it? Is being busy the reason we can't stop, smell the roses and celebrate in the happiness of others? That could be it and if so, what do we do? I have a solution that sounds simple but may not be. I think we should all stop pretending and really ask ourselves what makes us happy. That could mean, career, friendships, where we live, etc. We have to really be honest and then take some action. In doing this, we create a better life where we are happy and in turn can support someone when they need us. The problem with this can be fear. Currently, the economy is not so great so people are afraid to go after dreams. Some people are afraid even when the market is fine.

I get that. It is tough to make changes in our lives, but it is becoming even more important to to do this so we can be the best we can be. If we begin with supporting ourselves and our own dreams, it can definitely be easier to support others. Just a thought.

You Have to Have Your Own Mind

I am a fan of advertising. As a writer, it is part of how I make my living. The thing is though, I am one of the rare people not quickly influenced by what I see on TV or the movies. I don't have to see celebrities with the newest designer bag to go out and get one. If I want a new purse, I will just but one. Why is it that I would need a celeb to show up at a hip party with a new outfit or accessory before I decide to buy something. Why would I buy anything at all if I did not need it.

Don't get me wrong, I follow some trends and even like many things in style. I have a lot of beliefs as many people but there has to come a time when I and other go against the grain and do my own thing. I don't always like the latest fashions. I don't always thing the newest actor or singer is so great.

Are we supposed to learn to think for ourselves and ultimately make our own decision? Isn't that the case. I really do wish more people would think for themselves. Following the crowd can only work for a while. At some point in everyone lives, they have to have their own mind.

I am the Change I Need

With recent excitement of the recent election, it is evident that Americans are very excited and hopeful about change. That is s a good thing but I wonder if this is not something to set ourselves up for disappointment. What if Obama can't change things around. Would it be his fault or just the way it is?

Of course, having a new Presidential administration is good but maybe real change is more personal. Many people ask me if I am excited and to be honest, I would have made life work well for me, no matter what the outcome. I am learning not to allow outside things to move me and to try and remain constant in my emotions. I finally know that I am in control of my life and that I am actually the change I need.

If the economy is not doing well, then I figure out some new ways to save money. If I lose my job, then I keep searching until I find a new one. My life is really up to me. Isn't it? Again, I am happy for all who seemed exuberant and very hopeful about the election outcome. The only thing that I am concerned with is that I pray that people realize that things don't change overnight and that they have to do their part as well. It is not just up to the President, corporate leaders, or congress do do everything for us. Being a citizen here in the US, we all are responsible for change. It is actually my honor to do so since so many of my ancestors fought for me to be here. No matter what, I know that, I am the change I need to have a good life.

What does a recession have to do with me?

With the fall of Bear Sterns, the problems with Lehman Bros. and Merrill Lynch, many people get discouraged about the market. True, there is something to think about but even in a recession there are still people that prosper and survive. I truly believe it is all in how you think about it. Okay, so yeah there are facts to consider. The market is slow. The economy is not the greatest but you can still have a positive attitude about it and continue to work hard. So, the full time job situation did not work out. How about freelancing, consulting or even temping? There are ways to still make it in a not so great market. You just have to be open.

So, when people ask me if I am afraid of the country being in a recession, I just smile and say "What does that have to do with me?" As an individual, I have the choice to create my own reality and my choice is to make the most and best of any situation.

Asking for what you want

Many times you will hear people say how lucky someone is when they seem to get everything they want. The operative word there is seem. To me, no one really gets what they want just by waking up or being born. To truly get what you want, I believe you have to ask for it. You have to really believe you deserve it and state your case firmly and with passion. That goes hand in hand with working hard when going after a dream. Working hard alone won't get people to notice you. That is when asking comes in.

It really is so simple. Ask, work hard, trust and do the things you need to do to get the things that are important to you. Now this is not to say that everything we ask for will happen or be given to us. There is balance in the world and sometimes being told no can be good for us, but one will never know unless they ask for something they want. Achieving something may be as simple as just asking. Give a it shot. You never know.

Overdoing It

How do you know when you have worn yourself too thin? Is it when you forget little things? Is it when you about to fall asleep during a conversation or it is when you lose even the simplest things when your at home cleaning?

Life does come at you fast. Sometimes an event like a sick parent that you have to rush home to visit can throw you for a loop. It can also be something good like going to a event out of town or getting an unexpected job offer. There does come a time in life when one has to to sit back and just be. The purpose of just being is so that when it does come time to make a decision, the right one can be made. There is such a thing as being too busy that it is hard to think clearly.

In a world that tells you that you always have to something, maybe the best answer is to sometimes do nothing and just be and allow the answer to come to you. The best answer could definitely be not to overdo anything in your life.

Going out to CALI

As an East Coast type of girl, I am definitely more biased and excited about being NY. However, as a screenwriter, it is important that I make my presence known in LA. It has been a while since I have been out to LA LA, but the time has come that I go once again.

LA is beautiful with the mountains and the beaches and the all around good weather but I have to admit I am a NY girl. I will enjoy California while I'm there but when the plane touches ground at JFK, it will New York, New York once again.

Layoffs Galore, Oh My!

2008 has been a good year so far. Even with all the layoff in media and other businesses. I can't say that seeing friends and co-workers get laid off does not effect me. It is tough to see someone lose their job but I am staring to adopt the Oprah mentality of thinking. No matter what, I am trying to make it my best life.

Of course when something like this first happens, living your best life does not come to mind but if we can work on controlling our thoughts and emotions then we can see even this change can bring something new and exciting in our lives.

A layoff can seem devastating but it can also be the beginning of a new adventure. It really can be. It is all in how we look at it.

How Important is Money?

Living in a capitalist society has seemed to mean one of many things and that is Money is important. Almost everyday, I talk to my friends, family and co-workers and the subject of money seems to be topic.

What is it with this paper that makes people crazy, worried, concerned, or fearful? I mean, I know we need it. We all have to pay for a place to live, clothes to wear and food to eat but then after that why is it given so much power?

I believe society has sort of made of rely on money and even can make you feel useless if you don't have any. Hey, I like knowing that I have things taken care of as much as the next guy, but making money an issue can be an issue in itself. To me, money is tool for me to use, not a tool that uses me.

Money is important but me and human life itself is much more important.

Dating Again

Just in time for the movie SEX AND THE CITY is being released, I am getting back in the dating scene. It is interesting because until now I had resolved to be single for the rest of my life. The good news is that I was very happy about it. I have a good life so whether or not I had a mate or not was not going to be an issue but as I tell my friends, God does have a sense of humor. The moment I stopped looking it seems I found someone quite nice. It is still early but if my intuition is to be trusted, this could be something good.

Huh, maybe deciding to be single is what brings the right guy to you.

Spending Money

You know, there comes a time in life when you just don't want to spend any money. You might have it extra but sometimes you just want to save. I think I am at that point for a moment. As a kid, I started off poor then as a young adult I had to work. I even have to work now which is fine because I enjoy what I do but what I'm starting not to enjoy it to have to drop huge amounts of money on things all the time. I would rather save and since the economy might be a little weird for a while, wouldn't that be the smart choice. I believe I'll go that way. Saving for while is what I'll do.

Dating Woes

I promised myself that I would not blog about dating but lately I have been having the craziest things happen that I have no choice but to write about it. Maybe it will help someone else or maybe it will get me some kind of TV deal. Hey, you never you.

Now, I consider myself a fair person. I would never marry for money because I enjoy achieving things on my own. My parents were not wealthy so I have always had to work for a living. No problem because I enjoy working but when I meet guys for a drink or dinner and they don't want to pay for the first meal I am a little baffled. True, I can pay for my own meal but there are times they want me to pay for their meal as well. I mean, what is that about?

I guess what I am saying is, what happened to be a gentleman? I mean, even independent self-sufficient women want to be treated to a meal sometimes. I am even open to paying for my part of the meal but I will NOT and I mean NOT ever pay for a man meals in the beginning of a relationship. I have been used and even bankrupt as a result of it and that won't ever happen again. Like Billy Holiday says in her famous tune "God Bless the Child Who's Got His Own."

Too Busy to Blog

I was just working on an urgent project and another magazine relaunch when I realized that I had not blogged for the month of April. How could this be? I mean, blogging is one of the most sure ways to get your exact thoughts out for others to see. I can't possibly want to ignore this complete sense of freedom but what can I do so I won't forget.

Maybe I can set up some type of alarm to remind myself to blog. Yeah! You know, like remembering to eat or something like that. Hmm, I will really have to think about this. Truly, I will have to give them some serious thought.

Until then, I have to remember to BLOG.

What is Genius?

You know, I always hear people referring to someone who comes up with a great idea, makes a lot of money or excels in music a genius. In society, we use the word so much that it may have started to lose any validity. Was it really used correctly in the first place?

Well for starters, I will be the first to say that I do not believe in GENIUS. I believe when someone is referred to as genius, it is only because they have had the opportunity to do what they are good at and make a living at it. Someone who is a great musician who gets to write songs, get records deals and sell out stadiums is not specifically better than the person playing in their garage or one who plays at a local bar. To me, the only difference is getting or making the opportunity come to life.

The problem to me with the word is that when the person who is uncertain about their goals hears it, they sometimes feel inadequate. They may even state that I am not this great humanitarian, scientist, musician, educator, actor or business mogul but it does not mean they don't have genius in them.

They just need the chance to express their gift or talent, then they can feel like a genius too. Genius really is all about belief, confidence and going after what is important to you and doing it for a living. That's Genius.
